Liverpool's Best Kept Secret (Bar)

Liverpool's Best Kept Secret (Bar)

Ex Directory kindly invited me & a plus one to come in and try some of their unique cocktails in their hidden Liverpool bar.

I really love the secrecy of Ex Directory and how unique it is. It’s part of the fun to try and find the secret entrance and such a cool touch to be able to enter a secret bar through a phone box!

There are so many authentic, crazy cocktails to choose from here! We were absolutely spoilt for choice.

For our first cocktail of the night I went for the ‘Catwalk Bellini’ made with peach & mint shrub, topped with a big splash of Prosecco, served in their signature stiletto! My plus one, Hartage, went for ‘Eureka!‘ Mixed with tequila, melon and rose that glows while you sip!

My favourite thing about the catwalk bellini has to be the presentation! I love how unique and creative it is. The cocktail it’s self was lovely, but wasn’t as unique as I expected but delicious non the less! It’s a fancy take on the usual peach bellini with added mint that really tied the flavours together.

My plus one, Hartage, said it was “simply electric, instantly recognisable with a taste to go with it.“

For our second cocktails we were actually gifted a sharer cocktail called ‘Garden Party‘ made from a refreshing mix of baileys, raspberry and milk, topped with their signature Oreo ‘soil‘. Dig in, this sharer was the most fun drink, very realistic plant pot converted into a wonderful drinking receptacle! We both really enjoyed this unusual, creamy concoction- especially the ‘soil‘ which gave it a nice chocolatey, crunchy texture

After sipping away on our garden party sharer, we moved on to cocktail number 3… I know…. we’re entering dangerous territory for people who don’t drink often! 😂

I chose the ‘Sour Patch Daiquiri’, made with their modern fun-time tiki twist, bubblegum and strawberry, served with an injection of their homemade sours- this cocktail did not disappoint! It lived up to the name, it was incredibly sour but not too sour that you unintentionally pull a face. For me, it was the perfect amount of sour and really captured that sour patch, fruity flavour too! I also liked the novelty of the sour injection as well!

Hartage went for ‘Smoke in the City‘ which is made with buffalo trace bourbon, a dash of yellow chartreuse and homemade cigar syrup smoked in front of our eyes! Hartage loved this cocktail the most because it’s exactly everything he likes in a drink! He said it was like a bonfire in drink form… but in a good way, and all of the flavours complimented each other perfectly. He said '“From the start it differs, the prep includes burning whiskey barrel capturing the smoke then infusing into the drink, Uber smart.” There was also a lot of showmanship in making it, which is always fun.

Our last drink of the night was another gifted sharer, called ‘Into The Deep Blue Sea’. This sharer is made with jasmine infused ketel one vodka with a hint of hibiscus, topped generously with Prosecco.

We both seriously loved the into the deep blue sea sharer! It was so refreshing, colourful, fun, delicious and BIG! We all know cocktails are amazing.., but they’re even better when they’re gigantic! Hartage commented “It was an unexpected delight, watching the drink come together was a treat! It’s a taste of the ocean.”

Ex Directory really gives you some epic speakeasy vibes with a modern, liverpool twist! It is definitely one of the best bars I've been to, well worth a visit... If you can find it!

Thanks so much to Ex Directory for inviting us for this gifted experience, It was such a great evening! Can’t wait to come back and try the rest of their amazing cocktails!
