Mermaid Gin | Review

Over the weekend, the wonderful people at Mermaid Gin kindly gifted me a bottle of their gorgeous pink gin to try! Let’s ‘dive’ right in…

First of all, how stunning is this bottle?!! 😍😍😍

Before I get into the gin itself, I just wanted to mention Mermaid Gin’s work with sustainability and climate action. In 2020, Mermaid Gin became a net-zero business, joining a progressive community of organisations that are taking action to create a net-zero global economy. As a plastic-free company, their tamperproof neck seal is made from corn and potato starch, The label stamped with the mythical mermaid is made from recyclable & biodegradable paper and the beautiful bottle itself is reusable and recyclable, made by Vetro Elite Italy. It’s always great to see companies working towards sustainability and taking action to avoid the worst effects of climate change. I really love how eco-friendly this company is while showcasing that quality and presentation doesn’t have to be compromised when taking action.

Mermaid Gin is a hand-crafted gin distilled using ten ethically sourced botanicals and features the freshness of organic lemon zest, the aroma of locally sourced elderflower, peppery notes in grains of paradise and a hint of sea air from fragrant rock samphire- foraged from the Isle of Wight's cliffs and known locally as "Mermaid's Kiss", hence the gin's name. The pink gin version is infused with English strawberries to complement the original gin’s tasting notes, giving it a light fruity twist. With no added sugar, it's less sweet than most pink gins- which makes it unique.

This refreshing, aromatic & subtly sweet gin offers an interesting flavour profile. With a smooth sip-ability factor this gin becomes incredibly moreish, calling to its drinker like a siren song. The use of juniper is quite gentle in this gin as the main notes that shine through are strawberry, citrus and warm spices with a hint of sea air. Mermaid Gin makes for a lovely gin & tonic! My personal favourite tonic is Fever tree but any tonic can work quite well in most G&T’s- just don’t forget the ice & garnishes! I can imagine this gin would be perfect for summer cocktails- which I plan to test out ASAP! I am especially excited to use this gin for my birthday weekend in July to make some nice cocktails for my guests.

Cocktail Ideas:

(Mermaid Gin)

  • Mermaid Classic Martini- Mermaid Gin and vermouth chilled and enhanced with lemon zest

  • Mermaid French 75- Prosecco or champagne topping up a blend of gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup

  • Mermaid 'Gin & Tea- Green tea combined with elderflower and gin for a unique summer 'cooler. Created by Camille Vidal of La Maison Wellness (I absolutely plan on giving this a go very soon!)

What’s Not To Love About Mermaid Gin?

This gin is absolute summer goals with its mermaid theme and fruity vibes! Plus, with its sustainability mission, you don’t need to feel guilty about ruining the planet while you sip away. This gin really does combine all the things I love into one very drinkable bottle. I will defiantly be adding this gin to my gin cabinet and putting it front & centre! I can’t wait to share some Mermaid Gin with friends & family this summer.

Where to buy Mermaid Gin:

Harvey Nichols, John Lewis, Master of Malt, M&S, Waitrose & Tesco. Or visit https://isleofwightdistillery.com/stockists to find your nearest stockist.

This gin has quickly become one of my ultimate favourites. Its blend of interesting botanicals & aromas really sets it aside from your usual pink gin and the mythical mermaid concept ties in nicely.

Thanks so much to Mermaid Gin for gifting me this ‘mermaizing’ gin, I’ve really enjoyed reviewing it.
