What to Expect from a Shiverpool Tour
From the very beginning, you are swept off your feet with an enthralling performance- and that’s just the intro and tour rules. Throughout the tour you hear all about Hope Street’s history, spooky stories and get to partake in some fun and unexpected antics along the way. The tour consists of visiting both of our city’s proud cathedrals, Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and Metropolitan Cathedral, as well as the Georgian Quarter in between. One of the most interesting and mysterious stories from the tour was about a man called William McKenzie, also known as the man who made a deal with the Devil, and his oddly-shaped resting place.
How to survive a Shiverpool tour
Wrap up
Well, first of all, if you’re anything like me and you decide October is the perfect time to do a ghost tour (it is spooky season after all) then make sure to bring a pair of warm gloves and a good, waterproof coat. A nice pair of wellies or waterproof shoes won’t go amiss either. I luckily came prepared and even wore some thermal leggings under my jeans and a vest beneath my jumper. Not so luckily, my ‘always-cold-no-matter-the-weather’ friend Abbie didn’t come quite as prepared. But, as my hands were actually quite warm already I lent her my thermal gloves for the evening which seemed to remedy her cold hands at least! Pictured is Abbie modelling said gloves, showing off the mitten option they also come with.
Worship the Green Demon of the crossings
It is very, very important to worship and bow down to the ever-powerful Green Demon of the crossings. It has the power to control when we cross each road and some say it even decides who makes it across! If the Green Demon isn’t pleased with your worship, it may decide to never let you cross- that is without a sacrifice from the group. Be careful it’s not you! It is stated at the beginning of the tour that there may be a few who don’t make it back… (Or you can just press the button and wait for the green man to appear on the street lights to cross)
Listen carefully
Make sure you listen carefully and take in every word while on a tour, trust me you don’t want to miss a thing! There’s so much history and plenty of spooky stories to delve into. There may also be times when the guides ask you questions to check if you’re really paying attention- so stay sharp! Also, for your own safety, it’s best to listen to your guides while out and about on the busy streets of Liverpool as it’s easy to get distracted with everything going on.
Stay with the group
Try to keep up and stick with the group, slow walkers might be lost forever. There’s lots of stopping on the tour to hear stories so it gives you a nice break from the walking every now then. Liverpool is known for it’s time slips, so stick with the group to avoid slipping in to the past.
Join in
When on a Shiverpool tour, you’ve got to all out and join in where you can to enjoy the full experience. There may be parts that require a volunteer or where the whole group plays an exciting game called ‘ruin the first date’ while walking past restaurants of unsuspecting people. There are lots more fun antics and adventures on theres tours that really just make the whole experience that much better!
Thanks so much to Shiverpool for having us along- we had a FaBOOulous time! If you’re looking for something spooky to do in Liverpool go book yourself a Shiverpool tour.
