Al Dente | Authentic Italian food right to your door!

Al Dente was kind enough to recently gift me & my family a takeaway from their Lark Lane based restaurant.

Al Dente is an authentic Italian restaurant that prides themselves on good food & good wine- with a variety of the menu made either in house or carefully sourced from Italy, Turkey & France.

After browsing the menu online, we soon decided on our starters.

I went for the Salsiccia Sausage- which is a Grilled spicy sausage served on crispy salad & house dressing. I really enjoyed this as I don’t usually go for this kind of starter but wanted to try something different. This dish was bursting with succulent flavours and had a nice little kick to it with the spices which I thought complemented it nicely.

My mum opted for the Halloumi Fries- Fried halloumi served with tahini sauce. She really liked how tasty these were and said they were a classic!

My dad decided to try the Bruschetta- crostini bread topped with beef tomato, garlic, red onion & basil. This dish was a delicious taste of Italy in each bite! He said he was surprised by the flavours and really thought it was a nice dish to start with.

As well as these beautiful starters, we also had some cheesy garlic bread. We all really liked the cheesy garlic bread, it had a great ratio of cheese to bread and a lovely subtle garlic flavour. Personally, I would have liked it to have a stronger garlic presence but that’s just me- I’m a big fan of all things garlic! I thought the cheese used was really good and offered a nice cheesy taste throughout.

For our mains, we all chose a pasta dish- it was ‘impastable’ not to!

I let my Instagram followers decide my main for me between their carbonara and Pollo Alla Milanese. The one with the most votes was the Pollo Alla Milanese- Breaded crispy chicken breast served with spaghetti arrabbiata. I was excited about this one, as I haven’t tried that before. I didn’t expect the pasta itself to be as flavourful as it was which was a lovely surprise! I thought the breaded crispy chicken paired incredibly well with the pasta and sauce and gave it a more interesting flavour profile too. This dish served up all the flavour with a hint of spice and plenty of garlic- has to be one of my new favourite dishes!

For my mums main, she selected the King Prawn Linguini, made with Linguini pasta served with king prawns, red pepper, onion, chilli, garlic and dill sauce. Both my mum and dad enjoyed this dish as they decided to do a little mix & matching with their meals- we can’t not can we! My mum mentioned how much she liked the dill sauce, saying it really worked well for this dish. You could tell this meal was a definite hit when my dad started stealing a few prawns off my mum when she wasn’t looking! Unfortunately, as I’m allergic to shellfish I couldn’t try any of this one but I made up for that with the next one!

My dad picked the Lasagne for his main, made with Oven-baked pasta layers with meat sauce, bechamel sauce topped with parmesan cheese. An Italian classic! He was very impressed with the quality of the food and even said it was one of the best lasagne he’s had in a while! The flavour was lovely and it was baked to perfection to give the top layer those little crispy spots.

One thing we noticed about Al Dente was the amazing portions! One Lasagne for us could easily feed two and there was more than enough food to go around for us! I ended up saving some of my pasta for lunch the next day too! You don’t need to worry about going hungry after ordering Al Dente! You can tell by the quality of this food that the chef’s put so much work and care into their dishes.

We also tried the Al Dente House Wine we were gifted. Usually, we aren’t really red wine drinkers but it did go very well with the food and especially complimented the pasta dishes.

Al dente is ensuring to take precautions during this challenging time to allow their staff to follow the health and safety guidelines for Covid-19.

Overall, this takeaway was delicious, of restaurant standards, arrived more than hot enough to eat and gave us the opportunity to sit and eat as a family without the hassle of cooking!

Thank you so much to Al Dente for collaborating with me on this gifted experience!
